Plans: T-Mobile pay as you go is purely a pay by the minute plan so there are no options, add-ons or monthly plans to get confused with. Minutes are purchased as a refill either online or by purchasing a refill card at one of their 90,000 retail locations. Refills can be purchased in 10, 25, 50 and 100 dollar increments. However, T-Mobile does have a "Gold Rewards" plan. To become a member, you purchase a 100 dollars in refill cards. Once you are a Gold Rewards member, you get at least 15% more minutes for any denomination refill card you purchase. However, please note that Gold Rewards bonuses do not apply to Sidekick use. Also note that while T-Mobile To Go prepaid does not have a "free mobile to mobile minutes" plan or feature available, calls from T-Mobile contract customers to T-Mobile To Go prepaid customers fall under their "mobile to mobile" plan, provided the contract customer has the plan (that is, anyone with unlimited T-Mobile mobile-to-mobile minutes can call you for free, though you cannot call them for free).
Customer Service: Customer care is offered via a toll free number 1-877-387 4324, email and retail locations nationwide. We find customer service to be especially helpful and the wait times are generally short to reach a customer care agent.
Credit Check: None is required. Ask about Flex pay.
Contract: None is required for T-Mobile Prepaid.
Payment Options: Since this is a true prepaid plan, there is no "monthly bill" for basic service. You pay online with a credit or debit card or purchase a refill card at a retail location across the country.
Text and Picture Messaging: Text messaging is available with T-Mobile pay as you go and costs 10 cents per message sent and 5 cents per message received. Picture messaging is also available and costs 25 cents per picture sent or received.
Data Plans: T-Mobile offers prepaid Sidekick data plans for $1 per day. However, we could not find that they have web access for any other device for a lesser cost.
Downloadables: Ringtones, games, wallpaper and applications are available and start at $1.49 each and up, with prices varying based on what you purchase and the phone you're using.
International Calling: T-Mobile prepaid does offer the ability to make international calls. Rates vary based on the destination country, but start at 30 cents per minute, on top of the regular airtime charges. You'll want to check with customer service before making international calls to check rates for the country you're calling.
Roaming Charges: There are no roaming charges on the T-Mobile USA network. Sim willl work in Canada and roaming charges apply there.
Calling Features: All phones feature call waiting, caller ID, voicemail and 3-way calling. Airtime rates apply.
Activation Fee: There is None.
Nationwide Long Distance: Long distance calls to all 50 United States made with T-Mobile are treated like regular calls with no additional long distance fees.
411 Calls: Yes, 411 calling id available for $1.49 per call, plus airtime.
Earliest Minute Expiration: Minute expiration varies based upon the denomination card you purchase. 10 dollar refill cards expire in 30 days. 25 and 50 dollar cards expire in 90 days. 100 dollar cards make you an instant Gold Rewards member. Once you are a Gold Rewards member, your minutes do not expire on any denomination card you purchase for 1 year.
